Our high school students have the opportunity to attend outdoor school in May at the Coastal Discovery Center at Camp Gray in South Beach, Oregon. The Coastal Discovery Center is OMSI's newest outdoor school facility and includes very comfortable accommodations with easy access to the beach and forest.
Students learn about forest and coastal ecology, native birds, tsunami science, sharks, and local plants.
Our middle school students (6th, 7th, and 8th grade) attend Camp Hancock in Fossil, Oregon in October. Students learn about fossils, archaeology, native plants, and the wildlife of the area. Last year, out students also learned about bats and went on a night hike. Each evening is wrapped up with a campfire and good friends.
Outdoor School is an opportunity for our students to receive outdoor education. The camps that our students attend, along with the student activities and learning opportunities, are run by OMSI. Teachers and chaperones from Sheridan AllPrep Academy attend Outdoor School with the students. Sheridan AllPrep Academy pays for Outdoor School; there is no cost to the family.
For more information about Outdoor School, please read the Student Packet. It includes information such as what to expect at camp and packing lists for students.
