2018-2019 Registration

To get started with your registration, please follow these steps:

So you decided to register your child (or yourself) for online school. What happens next? This guide will give you an idea of what to expect during your first two weeks of school at Sheridan AllPrep Academy.

Day 1 – Once you have registered with us, we will request student records from your previous school. As a courtesy, you may inform your previous school of the transfer, but you are not required to do so. We will take care of all of the paperwork.

Within one business day of registration, you will be contacted by your new mentor teacher or the counselor by phone, email, or both. Please check your messages frequently so there is no delay in getting things set up. Your teacher or counselor will tell you a little bit about our program, and set up the first home visit. During that first contact, the teacher or counselor may also set up student accounts in Edgenuity, MobyMax, or Khan Academy. Additionally, the teacher or counselor will request a school email account to be set up for the student. If your student is in high school, your teacher or counselor may ask if you have a transcript or current report card. While we do not require a transcript (we will get it when we request records from your previous school), having it available facilitates a faster transition into your new classes as some schools take up to two weeks to send student records to us.

Your teacher will arrange a time for the first home visit/meeting. Some families love to have the teachers come to their homes because it is so convenient. Others prefer to meet at a local coffee shop or business. Let your teacher know what your preference is and she will accommodate you. All of our teachers try to set up that first meeting as soon as possible. However, they serve 24 other families and often have very full visiting schedules. We appreciate your flexibility in arranging times to meet.

Week 1 – During this week, your teacher will make sure you have the passwords you need to get into your accounts and that you have at least one class in which you can work. All middle school and high school students are required to take an introductory course called Strategies for Academic Success. This online course teaches students how to be successful while working in an online school. It is a .5 credit course which is designed to be completed in two weeks. We find that students who take longer than three weeks to complete the course are generally not suited for online school and we sometimes suggest better alternatives for those individual students.

If you are in grades K-5, you teacher will make arrangements to assess your skills and knowledge. Many of them use assessments in MobyMax, our online elementary curriculum. However, some of the teachers prefer paper and pencil assessments and will give those while meeting with the student.

It is likely that your teacher will meet with you this week. During that meeting, you can expect your mentor teacher to go over curriculum, set up classes, discuss attendance, go over the school web page, talk about work and time expectations, and answer any questions you have about our school. The teacher will make sure that you have all of her contact information and her schedule, and she will check to see that she has all of your contact information as well.

Week 2 – If you will need to check out a computer from our school, many families do that in their second week with us. Laptops are available for student use. Parents or adult students are required to fill out an online form requesting the laptop. Then, you need sign an additional paper when you receive the computer. Computers will not be checked out until the online form and computer use agreement are received. For questions about computers, you will want to talk to your mentor teacher. Families are not required to check out a computer. They are only available for your convenience.

By now, you should have all of your classes set up and you should be working in them every day. If you are in middle school or high school, you will probably finish Strategies for Academic Success by the end of this week. If you are in elementary school, all of the assessments should be done and your student will be working in regular classes. Most elementary students will be learning from books, but online classes and resources will also be available.

At the end of week two, you will feel comfortable with maintaining a regular daily schedule, know how to reach out when you need help, and feel comfortable being a part of an online school.
